Design process
The process of designing a garden, whether it’s a courtyard or a large country garden, requires a number of distinct stages to ensure that the process from initial conception to final realization runs as smoothly and smoothly as possible.
The following steps will give you an overview of the “typical” process when landscaping with us.
01.
Initial consultation and briefing
Every garden design project begins with an initial consultation and site visit.
These initial discussions enable us to discuss and agree functional and aesthetic requirements and aspirations for your garden, to create a consensual “customer brief”.
It is also at this point that the customer should have an idea of the budget they wish to allocate to their project.
02.
Site survey and analysis
This is a fundamental information-gathering stage in the garden design process.
It usually includes a visit to carry out a detailed analysis of your existing garden (trees to be retained, drainage issues, overlooking) and to take measurements or commission a topographical survey of the site, depending on the size and complexity of the plot.
03.
Sketch of garden layout plans
Based on the customer’s specifications and our analysis of the site, we get to work designing your new garden.
The result is a proposal called a preliminary design, which is presented to you in the form of a 2D garden plan, perspective drawings of views or 3D images of your garden (optional on quotation), illustrations of your new garden, sample images and palettes of materials, which will help you visualize what your new garden will look like.
04.
Landscaping masterplan
Once you’re happy with the overall design proposal, we produce a landscaping masterplan, which incorporates the agreed final design for your new garden.
05.
Detailed design and specifications
We then work to detail all aspects of the design, including “building” elements (construction plans, specifications for paving, steps, walls, seating, water features, etc.), as well as all planting details (planting plans, specifications, planting schedules, tree selection, etc.).
This stage can include close coordination with other professionals involved in the project (architects, engineers, etc.) and building permit applications, if necessary.
06.
Search for a landscape contractor
With this set of documents, we’ll help you coordinate the quotation process, either with a single contractor of your choice, or via a restricted call for tenders in which two or more recommended contractors are invited to submit a quotation for garden construction.
07.
Site supervision and planting
Once we’ve selected a professional landscape contractor, we’ll inspect the garden design at key points during the project, to ensure that it’s built to our design and to the highest quality standards.
08.
After completion of work and maintenance
All gardens and all plants require a certain amount of maintenance.
During the project, we will communicate the main maintenance requirements of the new garden and advise customers on how to keep their garden looking beautiful for many years to come.
